Norad's Programme for Master Studies, NOMA (2006-2010)

On 27.04.2006, SIU and Norad signed the agreement for the new Norad's Programme for Master Studies (NOMA) for the programme period 2006-2010. NOMA is the new name for the former Norwegian Capacity-Building Programme (NCP).

Call for applications to the Norad’s Programme for Master Studies (NOMA) 2007 - 2010
The Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU) on behalf of the Norwegian Directorate for Development Cooperation (Norad), invites applications for grants to Master programmes to be conducted in English in the South. The call for applications is presented with reference to the NOMA Agreement between the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and SIU signed on 27 April 2006, and the NOMA Programme Document 2006-2010.

The call for applications is available here.

The new programme replaces the Norad Fellowship Programme (NFP) [also named the Norwegian Capacity-Building Programme, NCP, for an interim period], which has existed for forty years. Norad has recently forwarded a letter to Norwegian universities, specialised university institutions and university colleges outlining the main elements of the new programme. The aim of all educational activities within the NOMA is to educate staff in public and private sector as well as NGOs in the South. Masters programmes will to a greater extent than earlier be established and developed in the South in close collaboration with Norwegian institutions. The needs and priorities of the countries in the South will be the basis for building relationships for cooperation between the partners in the South and in Norway.

Please read the letters sent by Norad and SIU regarding the Norad's Programme for Master Studies (NOMA) here.

Start up funds
The deadline for submission of applications for NOMA start up funds was 29th May 2006. A total of 43 applications for start up funds were received. The Programme Board for Fellowships Programmes managed by SIU evaluated the applications in June and 20 projects were awarded start up funds. A list of the awarded projects can be found here.

Norad Fellowship Programme (2000-2005)
The Norad Fellowship Programme is based on a vision that good educational opportunities at Norwegian universities and university colleges can contribute to increased competance in the South. Most of the courses in the programme are held in Norway and run over a period of two years. All courses are considered to hold a high academic standard.

The courses are part of the regular international programme of the institutions, and are offered in most academic fields. The courses are open to students from both Norway and the international community. Curricula and all lectures are given in English. In principle, fieldwork is performed in the student’s country or region. This ensures the relevance of doing the theoretical part of the degree in Norway.

The Norad Fellowship programme also includes courses given outside Norway. Courses are offered in South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania and Malawi.

Visit the Norad Fellows Network, a communication network between Norad fellows, graduates and their former host institutions in Norway - a tool for the exchange of knowledge.
