BIO-3132, Techniques in Plant Biotechnology

Work Load 10  credits (ECTS)

Contents This laboratory course will have an introduction (1 ECT) common to all students and the students are required to choose three modules (each 3 ECTS) among the following five modules: 1) transformation of plants (Agrobacterium-system, particle bombardment) 2) basic molecular techniques (purification, detection and quantification of nucleic acids, e.g. southern blotting and real time-PCR) 3) molecular techniques used in plant taxonomy and studies in plant evolution (PCR, fingerprinting and cloning) 4) phytotron techniques (growing of plant in a controlled environment) 5) qualitative and quantitative analysis of biologically active molecules (extraction and general chromatography, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, spectroscopy and mass spectrometry)

Form of teaching Lectures/seminars 20 hours, individual supervision, laboratory training 60 hours.

Assessment Laboratory reports graded fail/pass
