Contents
How can we understand the various adaptations in arctic agriculture? In this course, the focus is on historical as well as modern and post-modern aspects of agricultural development. And we focus on social as well as structural organisation, cultural as well as economical values. The aim is to understand how farmers model their practices within situated contexts, such as cultural values,
social networks, global, national and local economy, markets, policies and administration. And to focus on the possibilities for new strategies in arctic agriculture, including the challenges and
constraints. There will be emphasis on product development, marketing and branding of arctic quality. The main analytical tool is practice-oriented perspectives, which combines actor and structural
approaches. Examples will be used from different arctic regions, with special emphasis on Northern Norway.
