The Faculty of Humanities offers a one-year programme in English each semester. The programme corresponds to the former "grunnfag" studies in English.

Objectives
The objective of this programme is to offer an introduction to English literature, culture and language.
Target group
The programme is intended for students who wish to develop their knowledge of English, or who wish to use the one-year´s study as part of a bachelor´s degree programme, or as a part of the integrated 5-year master´s programme in language and social studies. The programme is also suitable for teachers wishing to acquire a deeper academic knowledge of English.
Prerequisite qualifications
A knowledge corresponding to English as a academic course of study at sixth form college level, with full specialization in the general academic course of study.
Organization of the study programme
The one-year programme commences in both the autumn and the spring semesters, and runs over two semesters. The programme includes 6 individual courses (of 10 ECTS each), giving a total of 60 ECTS.
Autumn semester:
- ENG-1016 Introduction to English Sound Patterns
(former ENG-1011 Introduction to English language II)
- ENG-1120 Introduction to American Studies
- ENG-1122: Introduction to Narrative Literature
Spring semester:
- ENG-1015 Introduction to English Word and Sentence Structure(former ENG-1010 Introduction to English language I)
- ENG-1110 Introduction to British Studies
- ENG-1014 English in Use

Admission
