The Rector’s main tasks:-
The rector chairs the university board. On behalf of the board, the rector has the superior responsibility for and management of the university’s business and the supervision of this. The rector, and in his absence the pro rector, has the right to participate in meetings in all the university’s boards, councils and committees.
- The rector is the university’s legal representative and is the university’s spokesperson to public authorities and the general public.
- The rector makes decisions on matters that cannot wait until the next board meeting.
- The rector also has the authority to decide ongoing cases that should be resolved before the next ordinary meeting, and that are not considered important enough to justify the calling of a special meeting. In cases involving university personnel, the rector can only determine temporary suspensions in anticipation of the board’s consideration.
- If the rector has a leave of absence, retires or resigns during his final year in office, the pro rector assumes the position. If the rector steps down earlier, a new rector is elected.
- The rector is excused from teaching from the time of his election until the end of his term of office. When the term ends, the rector has the right to update his research or academic skills for two semesters.
