Lasse Lønnum began as University Director on June 1, 2006, replacing Jan Larsen.

Tasks:
The University Director’s tasks are essentially stipulated in § 15 in the Law concerning Universities and Colleges:

• The director is the top manager of the university’s joint administration within the framework determined by the university board.
  
• The director is the secretary for the board and, after consideration with the rector, prepares and provides recommendations for the various matters placed on the agenda.
  
• The director is also, either personally or via one of his subordinates, secretary for the university’s most important governing bodies.
  
• The director is responsible for implementing the decisions made by the university’s governing bodies, and for capital appropriation of resources and property in consideration with the board’s decisions.
  
• The director is responsible for ensuring that the university’s joint economic and property management occurs within the Ministry of Education and Research’s general regulations for economic management and conditions for apportioning funding.
  
• The director prepares and presents to the board draft budgets and annual accounts, and keeps the rector and board updated on the financial position in relation to the budget and other conditions of consequence for the university’s activities.
