Technologies

Listed below are some of the technologies we hope to expose you to during the summer course. The list will hopefully grow during time.

We will also here post links and information about technologies and research that can be interesting for you to read upon to get ideas

CAVE / RAVE

Fakespace systems is the company that delivers the CAVE that we use. They have several different types of visualization systems. In NTNU we use the system CAVE.

We use the CAVE primarily to visualize reservoirs, but it can also be used for other purposes. The entire Troll field in the North Sea is planned by Hydro with this technology.

Haptic arm

Haptic arms is used to "touch" 3D objects. The arms we have are produced by SensAble, and we use them to on 3D reservoirs, either in the CAVE, in the control room or on a regular computer.

Haptic arms have a wide range of use, from 3D design, to medical and dental, and is a tool that have many possibilities.

The device we are going to try is PHANTOM® Omni. There is a great variety of different haptic devices.

Integrated Operations and Control room

From NTNU's webpage about control room and Integrated Operations :

"The relatively new field of Integrated Operations is known by different names in the industry and the authorities. Synonymous terms are e-operations, e-field, Smart field, Field for the future, and Digital oil fields.

It is all about integration. Traditional borders are becoming erased as oil companies, suppliers, groups and people working offshore and onshore are linked through new types of cooperation using computer technology."
