The library has a wide selection of books, Journals, videoes, reference books etc. to cover your study needs. You will also find syllabus texts and a large selection of secondary sources.
If you are unfamiliar with search techniques - both in the library catalogue and other databases - there are drop in courses at the beginning of each term. Contact the library to find out when the courses are held.
Search the collection
To search the collection, use BIBSYS ask. The search results in BIBSYS will show you the material available at the library and whether it is a book or an online resource. When you click on a book, the page will contain information about the location of the document (Examle: HIAK, 616.97 So, will tell you that you can find the book in our library, and the location of the book on the shelves - see below for more information on the organisation of our shelves or ask a librarian), whether the item is available or borrowed by someone else(UTLÅNT under Circulation status). If you find the letters MAG in your search result, the item is located in our closes stacks. Please contact a librarian for help.
Interlibrary Loans
If the books you are searching for are not available at AUC, the library may order them from another library. You can place an order by using BIBSYS or ask a librarian for help.
Organisation
The library material is organised after the Dewey decimal system. The different subjects are symbolized by number codes from 000 to 999. There is often a full stop after the first three numbers followed by more numbers. The numbers after the full stop represents the specific divisions within a subject. For example: 362 = Social medicin, 362.2 = Mental Health Care, 362.29 = Drug abuse. All the examples are taken from social medicin.
Following the numbers you will find letters. As several books can have the same number code, for example 362.2 - the letters following the numbers will help you locate the book you are searching for. You'll find the books alphabetically placed within the same number group. 362.2 An is for example placed before 362.2 Be.
NB: Journals are organized by subject and title - ask the librarians to find your subject!
