THE STUDENT BOARD
The Student Board (SOB) is an independent, non-governmental, democratic student organisation which represents and defends the rights and interests of students at Bodø University College. Through the Students' Board the students are represented in governing bodies at all levels within the administration of the university, and consequently influence the way the university is run. The Students' Board also prepares cases for and follows the directives passed by the Students' Parliament, and functions therefore as sort of an executive branch of the student "government". The six members of the Board are appointed by the Students' Parliament, to which all students may run for election.
The Student Board (SOB) consists of:
-The Students' Parliament
-Nine different student unions
-Various organized groups of students
THE STUDENT PARLIAMENT
The Student Parliament is the students' supreme democratic body. The parliament works on behalf of all the students of BUC. The parliament's primary goal is to promote students' academic and social interests. The parliament collaborates with the different student unions and the various committees, with different boards and councils, administration and staff, as well as with SSB (the student welfare organization.) The Student Parliament also functions at a national level collaborating with STL, the Norwegian Association of Students.
The parliament holds monthly meetings. The persons present are representatives from each of the nine student unions. The representatives are elected at the annual meetings of the unions. Present at the parliament meetings are also the presidents of the student unions, the boardmembers of the Students' Board and other observers.
THE STUDENT UNIONS
Each of the six departments at BUC have established their own student unions. The unions are active in organising and promoting social activities such as orientation weeks for new students, sport activities and different cultural events, as well as more academic activities, like debates with participation from leading figures in Norway.
One of the most important tasks that the student union conducts is the organising of student evaluation of the different courses. The evaluation is presented for the staff and management and helps the to ensure the high quality of our programs.
The students are organised into nine different student unions:
SiBS/ØKS/BITS: Students at the Bodø Graduate School of Business
INTER: Students at the Department of Social Sciences
AJOUR: Students at the Department of Journalism
NUGLA: Students at the Department of Fisheries and Natural Sciences
SALUT: Students at the Instutute of Education and Culture
