AT THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programmes in physics. The Department of Physics teaches physics courses customised for the different study programmes at NTNU.

The physics courses cover a wide range of subjects within both experimental and theoretical physics. We have modern laboratory facilities and during the physics studies our students will be doing assignments involving use of advanced equipment. In project work and on the Master’s Thesis the students have the opportunity to make use of research laboratories.

The following programmes of study are closely connected to the Department of Physics:

Master of Science in Technology:
Applied Physics and Mathematics (Master's programme, 5-years)
Nanotechnology (Master's programme 5-years)

Natural Science Programmes:
Physics (Bachelor’s programme, 3 years)
Physics (Master’s programme 2-years)

International Master's Programmes:
MSc in Condensed Matter Physics and Biophysics (2-years)
MSc in Medical Technology (2-years)

Doctoral degree programme (PhD) in Physics
Both an MSc in Physics and an MSc in Technology in Applied Physics and Mathematics qualifies for a PhD programme in Physics. The Department of Physics offers PhD studies in all of its research areas. There are also opportunities for writing a PhD Thesis in cooperation with other Departments and the industry.
