The Programme of African Studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is a multidisciplinary programme which includes subjects from several departments: Geography, History, Music, Art and Media Studies, Linguistics, Social Medicine, Economics and Social Anthropology.

The Bachelor's degree in African Studies, will give the students a wide and thorough knowledge of the African continent south of the Sahara.
It is organized as a 3-year study, consisting of mandatory and individually selected coursework. During the second semester a study tour to an African country will be arranged. The Bachelor's degree qualifies the student for admission to the Master's programme in African Studies, and can also be organized in ways which makes the student qualified for acceptance into the Master's programmes of either Social Anthropology or Geography.

For more information on the Bachelor's Programme.

In August 2005 NTNU launched a 2-year Master's Programme in African Studies. Several of the courses will be taught in English, and we hope to make this an International programme within a couple of years.

The Programme of African Studies has several international agreements both in Europe and Africa. In cooperation with the Institute of African Studies (IAS) at the University of Ghana, Legon we intend to arrange a 4 week field trip every spring term, primarily for our first year Bachelor's students. Our agreement with The Nordic Africa Institute allows our students to use their eminent library resources.

In addition to the Bachelor's programme, African Studies offers a wide range of courses through e-learning. Each net-based course gives 15 credits. You can take a closer look at the different Internet courses by navigating through the menu on the left.
African Studies aims to be an interesting programme for ordinary students as well as for teachers, journalists, health- and social workers, and different NGO workers.

For admission to the Internet courses please go to the NTNU videre pages for registration.
Registration must be made before 1 August for the autumn semester and before 10 December for the spring semester.
