The course gives an introduction to both older and newer expressions of art in Africa, and aims to give an anthropological understanding of music, theater, dance, litterature and media. The integration of different forms of art in other culture and social spheres, as religion, economy and politics will be debated. The new creolized, globalized or inter cultural forms of art, often categorized as "World Music", "World Theatre" or "World Litterature" will also be an important part of the course.

Internet lessons will be given during the autumn of 2006. As an e-learning student you will be given access to 12 Internet lessons in a Learning Management System called It's:Learning. You are also expected to attend 2 gatherings at the university campus in Trondheim and to join discussion groups on the Internet. There is one compulsory assignment during the semester for those who are not able to attend gathering number two.
