Multisensor-line, Information Fusion
Oliver Tomic
MATFORSK has been active designing and building a so-called multisenor-line. The multisensor-line basically consists of a conveyor belt for transportation of the product to be measured and various rapid analysis instruments placed along the conveyor belt for online measurement.

1. Multisensor-line facts and concept
An important part in the concept of the multisensor-line is data or information fusion. The online-measurement data of a certain object is collected from all instruments for subsequent information/feature extration based on the assembled measurement data set. According to the requirements data fusion and feature extratction can be carried out at different levels.
There is virtually no limitation to how many and what type of rapid analysis instruments can be implemented with the multisensor-line. More different measurement methods can lead to more complete and useful information about the product.
2. Research and applications
MATFORSK currently has an ongoing project where fat content and colour of salmon is to be determined online with rapid analysis instruments using the multisensor-line. Frank Lundby is project leader.
3. Cooperation and development
The norwegian company Prediktor supports MATFORSK with software and know-how for technical functionality of the multisensor-line, i.e. steering of all measurement instruments and apparatus as well as collection and storage of measurement data.
Qualified personnel within MATALLIANSEN in the field of food technology and chemometrics will work together for the development of various tailor-made applications that will meet the requirements for the product at hand.
So far, measurements with 4 different instruments can be carried out: A digital camera for image analysis as well as three spectroscopical instruments (NIR 710, MicroPac NIR, MicroPac VIS). Electronic noses (gas-sensors) and flourescens camera are instruments that are planned to be implemented in the system in the near future.
