Norwegian ID Number
Register in the National Registry (‘Folkeregisteret’)
Students staying in Norway for more than six months have to notify the Tax Office (‘Skatteetaten’) of their move to Norway and be registered in the National Registry. When the notification of your move to Norway has been registered, you will be issued a personal Norwegian ID-number.
How to notify the Tax office of your move to Norway
Once you have a valid residence registration certificate (EU/EEA/EFTA citizens) or residence card (Non-EU/EEA/EFTA citizens), you must fill in the form called ‘Notification to the tax office of a move to Norway from abroad’ and personally hand it in to the local Tax Office in Bergen together with the required documentation:
- Valid passport
- Valid residence registration certificate (EU/EEA/EFTA citizens)
or residence card (NON-EU/EEA/EFTA citizens) - Letter of Acceptance
- Tenancy agreement
You will find the notification form in your welcome information envelope from UiB together with further instructions.
Where to find the Tax office
The local Tax office in Bergen is located in Nonnesetergaten 4, 1st floor. Their opening hours are Monday to Friday 09:00–15:00.
After handing in the notification form at the Tax office it will take about three-four weeks until you receive your Norwegian ID number by post.
Notify UiB about Your Norwegian ID Number!
Your Norwegian ID number - when issued - must be communicated to the Division of Student Affairs through our online services to be entered into UiB's student register.
