A
fully automated CO2 removal unit consisting
of a full absorption/regeneration cycle with towers
0.15m ID and 4 m tall and equipped with steam generator
and cross flow heat exchanger.
A range of IR_analysers for acid
gases. |

Experimental absorption rate data from
a cross-flow membrane contactor and predictions of a
simulation program developed in the CO2
capture group. The experimental conditions cover the
whole range of operation for a full-scale absorption
contactor used in CO2-removal from exhaust
gas.
The membrane contactor model is
a rigorous diffusion-reaction model, solving for the
concentration profiles of the reactants and products of
the chemical reaction involved when CO2 is
absorbed into an amine-solution. The upper figure
shows the liquid side concentration profile of free
CO2 in a single membrane tube. Dissolved
CO2 is immediately depleted at the liquid
surface due to the rapid chemical reaction with the
amine. The lower figure shows the corresponding total
CO2 concentration of free+bound
CO2 in the form of an amine-carbamate ion
diffusing into the bulk of the liquid.
