1.0 GENERAL COMMENTS

The Bachelor Degree in Product Design is a three year full time study (180 ECTS). Completion of the Degree provides the platform for a professional career in Product Design, as well as qualifying for further Postgraduate studies within related areas.

  Aims: 

• To promote expertise, social awareness and codes of good practice, coupled with ability to meet change and development, to a level which qualifies for professional participation in product design projects, in both public and private sector.
• To promote research as a basis for a continual development of course content and structure, by combining departmental research with national and international product design related research.

  Objectives:

• To promote knowledge, skills and awareness related to central subject areas, which reflect the product designer´s working situation.
• To foster a proactive approach to product design, by focusing on design processes in combination with production- and materials knowledge and skills.
• To promote awareness of the historical, ethical and cultural context of product design throughout the products´ total life cycle.
• To build an understanding of the product designer´s role in society, by emphasising society´s need for innovation and sustainability and the collaboration between profession, industry and society.
• To promote communicative skills and structured approach to product design which encourages interrelated activity between the product designer and other professions involved in the product design process.
• To encourage continual assimilation and learning as a basis for a professional career within product design.

Admission requirements
The course is tailored for applicants motivated for careers in product design and related activities in public and private sector.

Applicants should be a minimum age of 19 years old, with formal education at least to "A" level equivalent and are required to complete an entrance examination to document ability within art and design.
