GRID Computing Portal

Contact: jeremy.cook@bccs.uib.no

GRID computing is the paradigm of networking computational resources for use by others in a transparent way. Computational tasks could be submitted, with the user specifying some parameters, and the task computed on a remote system. The user may know which system is being used but this is not essential.

In this project we will design and build a portal to computational grids. The portal must be portable and content independent so that the same framework can be used for other grid front-ends. The portal must be configurable so that new nodes can be easily added. Most of all the portal must be secure and preserve security established in the grid middleware being used.

It is expected that this project will use technologies such as Java, XML, ZOPE, Python, as well as a general knowledge of UNIX like systems. The student should have or be able to acquire skills in these areas.
