Blog describing changes to the portal.

This site is a partially closed site, and uses group spaces to achieve this. A couple of tweaks are required to complete the configuration. These tweaks are to workflows to ensure that anonymous security settings are not inherited all the way up. The pertinent permission settings are made by going to 'portal_workflow', selecting the appropriate workflow (contents tab) and associated states. See THIS LINK for more details.

Yes, it's been some time since I blogged the portal. Just finished a really hairy upgrade of Plone and Zope to newer versions (Plone 2.1 and Zope 2.8.7). Ended up making a new portal and transferring the content while the site was disabled. This took several days (elapsed time) and was fraught with problems. Several issues had to be overcome and I will try to document these elsewhere. One feature that comes with Plone 2.1 is kupu, a wyswig editor for editing content (I'm using it now). I have modified the jobs/positions scripts to use kupu instead of text field so the administration should be able to more easily enter richer entries.

The final step required was to give all of the Member folders the correct ownership since when I sucked them in with import, I forgot to click on 'retain ownership'. Fortunately this script did the job.

A note on security/permissions. Workflow (folder_workflow) is now set up so that visible items within a group workspace should not be accessible from outside (ie as anonymous users). Folders when created or made visible will get the appropriate security settings. The exception is BCCSGS/WHATSON which has been manually set up to allow anonymous access, although you cannot browse to it. This is so that local users can access the weekly newsletter without logging on or even having an acocunt.

  1. Python script for mailing out page from Python had an error resulting in the message global name to is not defined. Line 89 in CMFPlone/PloneTool.py should read if not self.validateEmailAddresses(mto):

Created default view for workspaces that displays index_html if this exists. Did this by:

    Go to portal_types/GroupSpace actions tab
The line that says string:${folder_url}/GroupSpace_listing,
remove the GroupSpace_listing so that it reads just string:${folder_url}/

Don't know what I did but all my portal blog comments are gone, so now I can't remember how we set this up. Starting from today I'll use edit instead of comment to create blog entries.
