Norwegian language requirements

Norwegian is the official language of instruction at institutions of higher education in Norway. All our Bachelor`s Programmes are conducted in Norwegian. A good command of the Norwegian language is necessary, to attend regular courses and degree programmes. The minimum requirement is one of the following

  • Norwegian language coursegrade3 or the equivalent offered by the universities and some university colleges, passed with grade E as a minimum
  • Norwegian in upper secondary school (læreplan i norsk som andrespråk), passed with 2 as a minimum, written and oral
  • Test in Norwegian, higher level, the so called "Bergenstesten", minimum score of 450: http://www.fu.no/Norsk/front.htm

Molde University College does NOT offer any Norwegian Language Courses which prepare students for acceptance to our bachelor`s programmes.

English language requirements

Although the language of instruction at our bachelor degrees is Norwegian, much of the required academic litterature is in English. A good command of English is therefore essential.

Non-native English speakers must document their proficiency in the language by taking one of the following tests/examinations:

  • English in Norwegian upper secondary school (grunnkurs, 5 uketimer), passed with 2 as a minimum, written and oral
  • TOEFL*, Test of English as a Foreign Language, min. score Bachelordegree: 500 (paper-based test) or 173 (computer-based test) Masters degree: 550(paper-based test) or 213 ( computer-based test)

  • IELTS*, British Council's International English Language Testing Service, min. score 5,0.(Bachelor`s degree) 6,0 (Master`s degree)

The following applicants are exempted from the requirements above:
  • International students who have successfully completed at least 1 year of academic studies at a university college or university in an English-speaking country
  • Applicants with a university degree with a major in English
  • Applicants who have completed a Bachelor degree and for whom English has been the language of instruction both in upper secondary school and at university
  • Applicants with an A-level examination in English, passed with grade C or better
  • Erasmus students

Financial requirements / VISA

For non-europeans:
Most of our students on our Master programmes finance their studies themselves. In order to obtain a residence permit (visa) for Norway, students are required to document that they have NOK 80 000 for one academic year (10 months) or NOK 40 000 if accepted for only one semester. This is to cover their living expenses. The Norwegian immigration authorities may insist on documentary evidence of adequate means of support for the entire period of study. This means that you will be required to document this amount for each year of your entire stay in Norway before youare granted a residence permit. The Norwegian immigration authorities are very strict on this point; an application for a student visa that lacks such documentation will be turned down.

Once a student is acceptedby Molde University College, details regarding the banking procedure to be followed, will be provided.

Molde University College does not offer any scholarship, but there are no tuition fee at universities or university colleges in Norway.

Students from these/the following countries do not need visa for studies in Norway: http://www.udi.no/templates/Page.aspx?id=5523
