Content: This course helps students to develop an understanding of the intellectual foundations of Industrial Ecology. The course will start with an overview of the historical development of the scientific field of Industrial Ecology. A comprehensive overview of Industrial Ecology is provided, addressing terms, concepts and theory. Topics that will be covered are: the analogy between ecological systems and the technosphere, industrial metabolism, system earth, industrial ecosystems, design for the environment, closing loops and tools for IE (analytical, design and implementation).
