The academic year begins at the end of August and finishes by the middle of June.
The academic year is divided into 2 semesters;
Fall semester: from appr. August 15 to December 15
Spring semester: from appr. January 10 to June 15
Exchange students are expected to arrive at NHH for the welcoming week starting on 14 August in the fall semester.
Upon arrival in Bergen, someone will meet you and welcome you. You will be accomodated at the Hatleberg student residence. A special welcoming week will be organised for all the exchange students with a focus on information, sightseeing, social events, integration and parties.
Most Norwegians understand English, so you do not have to learn Norwegian prior
to your arrival in Norway. However, in order to get more out of your stay, it
would be a good idea to learn the native language. If you can make yourself
understood in Norwegian, you will also be able to get along in Sweden and Denmark.
Foreign students interested in learning Norwegian will be offered an introductory course in the Norwegian language, culture and society. The course is offered both in the fall and the spring semester.
The price level in Norway is relatively high. It should not be necessary, however, to bring food for the whole semester, as one exchange student did last year. Close to school and Hatleberg there is a low-cost grocery store, REMA 1000.

Above we also give approximate figures to indicate the level of expenses per semester of study (4-5 months). All amounts are in Norwegian kroner.
Note that these figures do not include travel expenses to/from Norway. The cost estimate represents a healthy, but not lavish lifestyle.
Students must apply for a formal residence permit. Norwegian authorities require that all foreign students have a residence permit before their arrival in Norway. Students from EU countries are exemted from this rule and may apply for a residence permit after arrival in Norway.
The following documentation must be presented along with the application for a residence permit:
Class format: Lecture and discussion, often based on case preparation.
Attendance: Class attendance is mandatory.
Participation: Active class participation, presentation, coursework, groupwork.
Grading: In order to sit for the examination, the students must have completed the required assignments
set by the course instructor (course approval). Final grade based on written examination.
Class size: 20 - 80 per class.
Course load: One semester full course load is equal to 4 courses.
Examinations: Having received course approval, the students will sit for a three-four-hour examination.
All examinations are graded on a scale of A to F, where F signifies fail and E is the lowest passing grade.
English (25 courses per year)
Norwegian (80 courses per year).
