Moving allowance
Full or partial moving allowance reimbursement can be granted for non-locally recruited staff. As a main rule, such reimbursement should only be granted in connection with positions of at least 1 year's duration, and where suitable candidates are particularly hard to find.
If moving allowance is granted from the Department of Personnel and Finance, the moving allowance will be covered by this department except for projects.
Application for refunds of moving expenses must be sent to the Department of Personnel and Finance.
Prior to moving, the employee must obtain a written move quotation from at least three moving companies, and the lowest bid is chosen. The completed Moving Allowance Form, including the moving bill, is presented to The Department of Personnel and Finance as soon as possible, and no later than two months after the move. All move quotations must be submitted together with the form, and all claims for reimbursement of moving expenses shall be supported by original receipts.
The employee must pay the expenses in advance, e.g. moving company, travel for the employee and family, board and overnight lodging. If required, Advance Moving Allowance can be granted. The Department of Personnel and Finance will consider all expenses relating to the individual employee's reimbursement claims together.
Although the moving allowance is not taxable, the employee is required to file it. The allowance is tax-exempted as long as the reimbursement does not exceed the maximum amount specified by the Norwegian government regulations.
