Settlement permit

A settlement permit entitles the holder to live and work in Norway indefinitely. In order to obtain a settlement permit, you must meet certain requirements.

As a general rule, you must have lived in Norway for three consecutive years and have held a type of residence or work permit which constitutes grounds for a settlement permit. Besides, the terms under which the original work or residence permit was granted must continue to be met.

However, there are exemptions to this general rule.

NOTE: For more information and details about settlement permit and how to apply, please go to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration's web site.
