Getting a bank account

An ID-number must be issued before a bank account can be opened.

The following documentation is required:

• Passport or sertified copy of passport
• Confirmation of employment
• D-number or National ID number issued by the National Register.

Most banks will normally require that account holders have had a "stable customer relationship", i.e. have received wages for a period of 2-3 months, prior to the bank considering an issue of "plastic cards". Employees who cannot open bank accounts on commencement of employment will receive advance payments on wages.
