Resources at the University of Tromsø
  • Academic affairs
  • Safety issues
  • Contingency
  • Training
  • Health and security
  • Must remember!
  • Resourcepersons and units

Several units at the University of Tromsø holds different resonsibilities and provides you with different kinds of advice when you are planning to embark on studies or research abroad.

Department of Research and Academic Affairs
- is charged with facilitating and approving the academic side of your travel - both when coming and going. There is an International services section working with those coming to the University of Tromsø, and with those Tromsø-students vishing to have their studies abroad approved as part of their study-plan. There are forms and deadlines.

Department of Personnel and Finance
- is charged with the safety-side of your travel. This is a part of efforts on "Health, safety and the environment (HSE)" at our institution, it conserns in general those going out, and with them you find regulations and some advice on insurance.

Contingency plans
- have been developed. Any crisis, accident, or "risks outside what may be termed as normal", and which is "outside the factual premises of units at the university", should be referred to the Central emergency action group.

The internal alarm call service is: 199
from any fixed telephone at the university.

(Outside the university there is unfortunately not yet a specific number to call, but a working-group has raised the issue and we anticipate that something will be operational soon.)

Training and courses
There are not yet a specific permanent preparation-course for students and researchers going abroad, but work is underway to establish it. In comparison, if you wish to do studies on Svalbard or on a research vessel, you really need a number of security-related courses: BIO 3309.

Hints on health and personal security
- see separate SEMUT-pages (left).

Must remember!-hints
- see separate SEMUT-pages (left).

Other information, experiences and resources
- are available at faculties and units, f.ex.:
International students union
Centre for international health
- more is coming
