Harassed at med-students’ party
Most students in Bergen have a tradition for welcome parties.
This year’s party at the medical faculty has made waves. –
We were physically and emotionally harassed. Those who gave
the party used their opportunity to bully and single you out
for your faults. It was horrible, and I cried, says a female
student who wants her name withheld. Another female student
tells how she was stuck in a closet with wet mask over her
head, not knowing anything about her surroundings. – They
stuffed unknown foods in my mouth, she complains. She is also
shocked by the intoxication among the organizers. Another
female student was forced to stand in an elevator crowded
by naked men, and another student is said to have suffered
a concussion following the party. Johs. Teigland of the medical
faculty is shocked. – This seems like some delayed high-school
puberty scheme to me, and I do not like it, he fumes.
Inside job
At the general assembly of Realistforeningen (RF) this autumn,
a former member was accused of stealing from the organization’s
funds. The board has ceased all comments until the matter
is sorted out. The accusations include stealing 10.000 kr
and taking RF’s mobile phone. According to Studvest’s sources
the suspect has admitted the deeds. The suspect’s name and
number was mentioned in the material for the general assembly,
and Nicolai Skaar Trysnes, who is the president of RF, agrees
that such an identification of the suspect was unfortunate.
ISU Annual meeting
Monday the annual meeting of International Students Union
(ISU) will be held at Fantoft. All students who do not come
from Norway are welcome here. A new committee for the organization
will be elected, and ISU’s international coordinator, Paul
Kaigne, promises the meeting will be an interesting one, and
that it will include food and beverages. ISU is an organization
for students in Oslo, Trondheim, Tromsø and Ås as well as
Bergen.
