Lack of confidence
Sosialdemokratisk liste is considering a no-confidence motion
against Eivind Kildal, who is chairman of the board of The
Student Welfare Organization (SiB). The final inspiration
to do this came after documents had been kept a secret until
after their latest board meeting was over. - If they don’t
take communications with the students’ representatives seriously
we have to take action against Kildal, says Jørgen K. Kristiansen,
who is students’ representative in the university board. It’s
disgusting that documents are withheld. A student’s point
of view is important information when decisions are being
made, Kildal says. - As chairman of a board it’s important
to be trusted, says Kildal. I hope a dialogue will boost confidence.
He thinks most of the students’ listed requirements are already
honoured.
Library renovation
The Faculty of Arts’ library will close on the fifteenth
of this month. The building will go through a renovation process
and the library will move to a temporary facility on Sydneshaugen.
At the reopening summer of 2005, users will meet a quite different
library. -The shelving systems will be of the open kind, and
here will be plenty of room to study as well as computers
to use, says librarian Ane Landøy. Estimated cost of the library
renewal is 95 million NOK.
Refused because of child
When student Tom Stian Kosmo applied for a SiB-residence
he was quickly turned down. The reason? His 20-month old daughter.
It was explained to him that children were not allowed in
SiB’s ordinary facilities. SiB said that at Fantoft there
was to be peace and quiet for students and there was no room
for noisy children. Kosmo mentions how frequent parties make
far more noise than a child who falls asleep at eight PM.
Since Kosmo doesn’t have full custody, he doesn’t qualify
for a family apartment at Nattland. - It seems to me that
SiB takes a negative stand against children, Kosmo says.
