Mozilla Thunderbird Mailclient

It is possible to read your UMB-mail with a mailclient if you use IMAP. Examples of mailclients: Opera, Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Mozilla Tunderbird.

Computer Service recomends Mozilla Thunderbird instead of Outlook and Outlook Express. The following pictures are from Mozilla Thunderbird, which can be downloaded here.

1. Choose Tools > Account Settings and Add Account. Choose Email Account, press Next.

2. Write your username and e-mail address, press Next:

3. Choose IMAP and write the following server, press Next:

4. Write your username and press Next:

5. Write a name for your account, press Next:

Press Finish.


When you go to your Inbox you will be asked to type your password. Here you may check the box Save password if you don't want to type it in every time you go to your inbox.

If you are not on UMB's network and you still wish to use a mailklient and not just WebMail, the easiest way to get access is to use VPN.

It is also possible without VPN if you do the following changes:
1. Change outgoing server:
The server must be changed to the SMTP-server of your internet provider. If your don't know the name of this server, contact your internet provider. This is how the change is done:
Choose Tools > Account Settings > Outgoing Server and write the name of the new server.

2. Activate SSL
Choose Server Settings and check for Use secure connection (SSL)

You may now send and recieve without VPN.
