Watch out for VD

There is more than some chlamydia among students. According to statistics, more than one in ten has this diagnosis. So unprotected sex is still not wise. «Kåre» does not want to reveal his real name. He is a student in Bergen and has had a bad outcome after a drunken binge. «I came home with chlamydia», he says. Last week it was reported that as many as one in six students in Trondheim might have contracted chalmydia. There is no reason to believe the numbers in Bergen are much better. The Polyclinic at Haukeland University Hospital is experiencing a rush of people for testing after the holidays. As the disease is easily transmitted and most bearers show no symptoms, it easily spread. The treatment usually is no more than a couple of pills. One is advised to use protection.

Too realistic exam case

People who work at students’ bar Hulen feel harassed after a similar ‘establishment’ was the subject of an exam at The Faculty of Law this spring. The wording left little room for imagination and made it clear where the inspiration originated. In the case, off-duty staff drinks for free after hours, causing disruption in the neighborhood. Rune Steinsland, who manages the bar at Hulen, is not impressed by this kind of creativity. He imagines it will cause damage to Hulen’s reputation. In fact, part of the case is based on an actual conflict between Hulen and some of the neighbors. This specific matter will be handled in a minor civil court this autumn. Gudrun Holgersen, who is responsible for the exam in question, says their cases are inspired by actual situations. - Also, students like a humorous tone, she says.

Election chaos in the students’ council

Helga Eggebø has been elected as students’ representative for the university board. However, she has applied for an exemption. Kristoffer Jul-Larsen of Boligaksjonen calls Eggebø’s election an act of revenge, as the candidate listed as number one was not elected. Eggebø had no intention of being elected in the first place. Per Einar Strand, who was first on «The Democratic People’s list’ receives criticism for being seemingly uninterested in the entire position. Eggebø’s request to be relieved from her duties will be considered by the university’s board at its meeting on September 11th.
