As soon as you have a Norwegian ID you may open a bank account. This is important regarding payment of your scholarship (if you are Quota or NORAD scholar). It is also the cheapest and best way to pay your bills etc. The 1st and the 2nd payment will be sent to your address in Tromsø by cheque, later the money will be transferred into your bank account. It is important that you choose a bank where you are given access to their Internet-banking-system and a bank willing to offer visa cards to foreign nationals. A piece of advice: Ask senior international students about which bank to choose.
As soon as you have established a new bank account, you need to inform Mona Johansen in the administration about the number. Send her a mail with your full name, address, date of birth and state whether you are quota or NORAD-fellow.
