Dentistry Down in the Mouth

Many were disappointed at the School of Dentistry on Tuesday when it was announced that a new facility, which had been 11 years in the planning, will not be built. This decision by the government disregards the professional advice they were given, and instead will make dentistry training a priority in Tromsø. This may mean the beginning of the end for the School of Dentistry in Bergen.
- In the long run, it will be impossible to continue teaching modern dentistry at this facility. This decision isn’t sensible from a professional point of view, claims Magne Raadal, Dean of the School of Dentistry. The Norwegian Medical Association and the universities in Bergen and Oslo all recommended that efforts be directed towards building new facilities in Bergen. Dean Raadal does not understand the reasons behind this political decision, and adds that the demand for training new dentists isn’t so overwhelming that it couldn’t be handled in Bergen and Oslo.

Kill-joy Kilroy

Over Easter UiB student Hilde Eikeland was looking at Kilroy’s homepage for tickets to San Diego, CA. She found a cheap return ticket for NKr 3 540. She then booked a ticket for herself and her sister. She stopped by the Kilroy office in Bergen to double-check her reservations. Only three days before she was supposed to pick the tickets up, she found out a mistake had been made. The price per ticket was actually NKr 7 000. - The conversion from Euros was wrong, and Kilroy wanted NKr 7 000, says Ms Eikeland. She was absolutely astonished, and wasn’t willing to accept such a large price increase. After making numerous phone calls to the person in charge of on-line services, she agreed to buy the cheapest ticket they had to offer, at NKr 6 000. She normally would have been content, but found the customer treatment at Kilroy so appalling that she decided to take matters further. - The employee in question was extremely unpleasant to talk to. He said things like ‘You waste a lot of my time when you call twice a day, and that’s expensive for Kilroy!’, says Ms Eikeland. She was finally able to talk with a sales manager, who was apologetic and promised to look into their routines for on-line sales.

Discount not for Everyone

Students under 30 will get a 40 percent bus-discount, while those older get nothing, according to the revised national budget which was presented last Tuesday. A month past with a discount will cost NKr 380. However, the Gaia Bus Company warns that they are planning on a general price-hike in the near future.
