Communication Design

The Communicaton Design Group at InterMedia (CDG) draws on transdisciplinary production based inquiry. Our research covers text analysis, developmental and participatory design and the study of contexts of situated use. Our view on Communication Design is a socio-cultural one - situated meaning making is built through shared design processes, via the tools and resources we apply, and in our collaborative encounters in fashioning mediated meaning making.

Communication Design is a plastic term. It moves between the deliberate and unfolding iterations of design activity. It may be moved to suit specific contexts and needs as the focus shifts from form and function to articulation. This dynamic is important in our research. It informs the application of concepts and the selection of methods. As the pursuit of design reaches for what is not yet quite in place, a focus on communication works to situates that grasping in contexts of development and use.
