Søkere må ha doktorgrad innen relevant fagområde (se forrige avsnitt for faglig profil).

Vi viser også til programbeskrivelsen for satsningen.

Article published in Nordisk Museologi

January 5th, 2006

New issue of Nordisk Museologi contains an article by Palmyre Pierroux about how students make sense of works by Duchamp, Malevich and Rothko in high schools and museums. “Dispensing with Formalities in Art Education Research ” argues that distinctions between schools and museums as places of formal and informal learning, respectively, are not useful analytical categories for understanding complex and situated meaning making processes.

Paper accepted to J. Organizational and End User Computing

December 20th, 2005

Hege-René Åsand and Ander Mørch’s paper “The Organisation of End User Development in an Accounting Company” has been accepted to the Journal of Organizational and End User Computing. The paper presents a case study following the activities of super users and local developers during the adoption of a new business application by an accounting firm in Scandinavia (referred to as the Company). The Company launched a program to train super users to help with this process because of the complexity of the new system, a generic, multi-purpose application system replacing several older, non-integrated systems. The system, Visma Business (VB) is a comprehensive financial and accounting application delivered as a set of components that need to be configured for domain-specific tasks, depending on the clients the accountants will interact with. The super users and the local end user developer (also called the application coordinator) were asked to take part in this study. We documented their activities empirically and analytically, using interviews to gather data and drawing on aspects of Activity Theory for the conceptual framework for analysis. Our findings provide insight into end-user development (EUD) activities with VB: what roles were created by the Company, what roles emerged spontaneously during the process, what the various user groups (regular users, super users, and the application coordinator) did, and how EUD was coordinated between super users and the application coordinator. Our findings show that super users fill an important niche as mediators between regular users and local developers and can make a significant contribution to the success of EUD efforts in a non-technical application domain.

The Research Council of Norway has granted 4,4 mill NOK for the years 2006–2009 to a project on “Mediatized Stories. Mediation perspectives on digital storytelling among youth.” The project will explore how people - youth in particular - use self-representation in digital storytelling to shape and share their lives. The project will try to understand these processes through theories of mediation and mediatization across media studies and the field of education. The project will be coordinated by InterMedia. This is an international and interdisciplinary project with participants from six countries. The project brings together several departments at the University of Oslo. Interaction Patterns in Online Apprenticeship Learning

November 22nd, 2005

An article based on a Project COOL study has been published in the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning. “Examining social interaction patterns for online apprenticeship learning - Object-oriented programming as the knowledge domain” is written by InterMedia researchers Annita Fjuk and Ola Berge, together with Jens Bennedsen from IT University West in Aarhus, Denmark.

The article shows and discusses social interaction patterns that developed in an online learning environment where the pedagogical design was inspired by ideas found in apprenticeship learning. The embedded study comprised a case study of an introductory online course on object-orientation and a design experiment carried out in the same course in the following semester. The case study indicates that support for the teacher’s awareness information on the learners’ level of knowledge and progression is critical for successfully developing social interaction patterns of teacher guidance. The design experiment identified that learners’ pre-prepared solution of the problem was vital means for developing productive social interaction patterns concerning collective reflections and joint problem solving.

Movement in the interface article

November 14th, 2005

Synne Skjulstad and Andrew Morrison have an article out in the latest issue of Computers and Composition (Vol. 2, No 24, 2005). Called Movement in the interface, the article argues that interface design needs to be given greater attention in the light of the emergence of dynamic and single environment screen spaces. Movement within and through these interfaces, often authored in the software Flash from Macromedia, is realised through designing relations between media types, content and underlying information architecures and systems. One of InterMedia’s experimental design and educational projects into dance and technology is presented via the case of its online mediation in the BallectroWeb. The article presents discusses the design of the interface for this web and the articulation of multimodal discourse related to different perspectives in the project and on the part of users. Characteristics of dynamic interfaces are presented in closing.
