Exams at the Faculty of Humanities
Home exams:
STATEMENT OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
All students who submit an exam in the form of a home assignment, essay/paper, semester assignment, project assignment, master's thesis, or the like at the Faculty of Humanities, must submit a statement of academic integrity together with the exam.
For the integrity statement form, please click here.
SOURCE REFERENCE
When you use sources in your submitted work, it is very important to make this visible.
If you quote or make references in your submitted work, you must refer to the source so that the reader may locate the same text in the original; this means listing the name of the author, the title of the work, the year of publication, and the page(s) you are quoting or referring to. If you are making use of parts of other person's ideas and text in your own paper without indicating that it is a quote or reference, it is the same as plagiarising, in other words stealing. It is also plagiarism if you render, in your own words, the same as someone else has written, without giving the proper reference.
Source reference The different subject areas/disciplines may have their own ways of marking quotes and references (tabulation, quotation marks, reference to source - author, title, year, page numbers, publisher). If you are in doubt as to how you should proceed, you should ask the lecturer of the course in which you will have your exam.
Cheating
Plagiarism will be regarded as cheating or attempted cheating. Section 20 of the exam regulations at the University of Tromsø states the following:
Section 20 Cheating during examinations
[...]
Candidates who are caught cheating or attempting to cheat during an examination can be excluded from the university and lose the right to sit the examination at any other institution for a period of up to one year. (http://uit.no/studieavdelinga/regelverk/34)
